  4. Select Split PDF and download the new files individually or together as a ZIP.

Split PDF features

Four ways to split

Ranges, hand-picked pages, one file per page, or equal blocks of N pages.

Click-to-select thumbnails

See each page before you choose it, so you never have to guess page numbers.

One file or many

Combine all chosen ranges into a single PDF or save each range separately.

Original quality

Pages are copied, not re-rendered, so text and images are untouched.

Private by design

The document is split in your browser and is never uploaded.

When to use Split PDF

  • Sending one chapter of a manual instead of the whole thing.
  • Removing a signature page or cover sheet to file separately.
  • Breaking a scanned batch of documents back into individual files.
  • Extracting a single invoice from a multi-invoice statement.

Split PDF FAQ

How do I write page ranges?

Separate ranges with commas and use a hyphen for a span, for example 1-3, 5, 8-10. An open range such as 12- means page 12 to the end. A range written backwards, such as 5-1, extracts those pages in reverse order.

Can I extract pages into one PDF instead of several?

Yes. With the ranges or selected-pages method, tick “Combine into one PDF” to get a single file containing all the chosen pages in the order you listed them.

Does splitting change the page content?

No. Each page is copied exactly, including fonts, images, links and annotations on that page.

Why is each split file not much smaller than the original?

Shared resources such as embedded fonts are copied into every output file that uses them. Short extracts from font-heavy documents can therefore be larger than their share of the page count suggests.

Can I split a protected PDF?

Unlock it first with the Unlock PDF tool, then split the unlocked copy.

Choosing the right split method

Use ranges when you already know the page numbers, such as “pages 2 to 9 are the contract, 10 to 12 are the schedule”. Each comma-separated range becomes its own file unless you choose to combine them. Use selected pages when it is easier to recognise pages by sight, for instance when picking receipts out of a scan.

Splitting every page is useful for scanned batches where each sheet is a separate document. Splitting every N pages suits forms that repeat at a fixed length, such as a set of two-page certificates exported as one long PDF. After splitting, you can reassemble pages in a different order with the Merge PDF tool.
