Word to PDF FAQ
Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?
The content and structure are preserved, but the in-browser converter does not reproduce everything Word can do. Custom fonts, headers and footers, multi-column sections, text boxes and precise page breaks may differ. For documents where exact layout matters, export to PDF from Word itself or use a site where the high-fidelity server engine is enabled.
Can I convert old .doc files?
The in-browser converter reads the modern .docx format. Open a .doc file in Word or another editor and save it as .docx first. Where the server engine is available, .doc, .odt and .rtf files are accepted directly.
Why is some text missing or shown as boxes?
The built-in PDF font covers Latin, Cyrillic and Greek alphabets. For Arabic, Bengali, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and similar scripts, select Print / Save as PDF, which uses the fonts installed on your device.
Is my document uploaded?
Not with the in-browser engine: the file never leaves your device. If you choose the high-fidelity server engine where it is offered, the file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, converted and then deleted automatically.
Are images in the document kept?
Yes. Embedded pictures are included and scaled to fit the page width.
Why people convert Word documents to PDF
A Word file is a set of instructions that each program interprets using the fonts and settings on that computer. Open the same document on a phone, a Mac and a Windows PC and line breaks, page counts and even fonts can differ. A PDF fixes the layout: every page is described precisely and fonts are embedded, so what you send is what the recipient sees.
This converter reads the document's structure from the .docx file, which is a ZIP archive of XML, and rebuilds it as a PDF with flowing text. That approach is fast and private, and it suits letters, reports, essays and résumés with conventional formatting. It is a structural conversion rather than a pixel-exact one, which is why highly designed documents are better exported from the word processor that created them.
A few habits in the source document make any conversion more faithful. Use the built-in heading styles instead of manually enlarged bold text, so the structure is clear to every program that reads the file. Insert tables with the table tool rather than lining up columns with spaces or tabs, and place images in line with the text rather than floating them at fixed positions. Documents built this way also tend to be more accessible to screen readers, and they keep their layout better when someone else opens them in a different word processor.
