Instagram Post Resizer FAQ
Which post size gets the most visibility?
Taller posts occupy more of the screen as people scroll, so 4:5 (1080 × 1350) and 3:4 (1080 × 1440) images are generally the most prominent in the feed.
Why does Instagram crop my carousel?
All images in a carousel are shown in the shape of the first image. If later slides have a different shape, they are cropped to match. Resize every slide to one format first.
What is the difference between this and the Instagram Image Resizer?
This tool focuses on feed posts and carousels, one format at a time. The Instagram Image Resizer creates many Instagram formats, including stories and profile pictures, from a single photo at once.
Should I upload larger than 1080 pixels?
Instagram displays feed posts at 1080 pixels wide and reduces larger uploads. Uploading at 1080 avoids an extra resizing step and keeps your control over sharpness.
Can I keep transparency for graphics?
Instagram does not display transparency, so choose PNG with Fit + colour if your graphic needs a specific background colour.
Choosing the right shape for a feed post
Instagram began as a square-only app, a nod to instant film. Today it accepts any shape between 1.91:1 landscape and 4:5 portrait, and since 2025 it shows profile grids in a taller 3:4 shape. The format you choose affects how much screen your post takes in the feed and how it is cropped on your profile.
Portrait formats are usually the most effective for photos of people, products and food: they fill more of a phone screen and keep attention longer. Landscape posts show wide scenes but appear small in a vertical feed. Square posts are a neutral choice that look tidy in grids and work well for text graphics and flat lays.
Carousels have a special rule: the first image sets the shape for every slide. Mixing shapes therefore leads to unexpected crops on later slides. Planning a carousel in a single format, and preparing every slide here with the same choice, keeps the sequence consistent.
Text on posts should stay a safe distance from the edges. The profile grid trims a little from the sides of 4:5 images, and different devices draw interface elements over images in different places. A margin of about 5% on each side keeps captions readable everywhere.
