Photo Collage Maker FAQ
How many photos can I use?
From two to nine photos per collage. For larger numbers of photos in a uniform grid, use the Photo Grid Maker.
How do I choose which photo is the big one?
In the featured layouts, the first photo in the list fills the large cell. Move a photo to the top of the list to feature it.
Will my photos be stretched?
No. Each photo is scaled to cover its cell and cropped evenly at the edges if its shape differs, so proportions are always preserved.
What size should I choose for printing?
Use the 6 × 4 in or A4 options, which are at 300 pixels per inch. Print at 100% scale for the sharpest result.
Can I make a collage with a transparent background?
Choose PNG output; the background colour is still applied, so pick one that matches where the collage will be used.
Making collages that look intentional
A good collage tells a story at a glance, so start by choosing photos that belong together: the same event, colour palette or subject. Mixing very different lighting and colours makes the whole image feel busy. Including one strong image as the focal point, using a featured layout, gives the eye a place to start.
Spacing does a lot of work. Thin white gaps give a clean, magazine-like look; no gaps create a seamless mosaic; wide coloured gaps make each photo feel like a separate card. Rounded corners soften the grid and suit friendly, casual content, while square corners feel more formal.
Because cells rarely match each photo’s exact shape, every image is cropped to fit. The crop is taken from the centre, which works for most subjects. If an important detail sits near the edge of a photo, crop that photo first with the Image Cropper so the subject is central, then add it to the collage.
Choose the canvas size for where the collage will appear. A 4:5 portrait collage takes up more of an Instagram feed than a square one, a 9:16 collage fills a story, and print sizes at 300 pixels per inch keep a framed collage sharp.
