Facebook Image Resizer FAQ

What size should a Facebook link image be?

1200 × 630 pixels, an aspect ratio of about 1.91:1. Set it as the og:image of your web page; images smaller than 600 pixels wide may be shown as small thumbnails instead of a large preview.

What is the best size for a Facebook feed post?

Square (1080 × 1080) and portrait 4:5 (1080 × 1350) images display well on both phones and desktops. Very tall images are cropped in the feed.

How big should a Facebook profile picture be?

Upload at least 320 pixels square; 720 × 720 gives a sharp result on high-resolution screens. It is displayed as a circle, so keep the face centred.

Why does my shared link show the wrong image?

Facebook caches link previews. After changing the image on your page, use Facebook’s Sharing Debugger to refresh the cached preview.

Is there a separate tool for cover photos?

Yes. The Facebook Cover Resizer handles page, profile, group and event covers, including the safe area that stays visible on phones.

How Facebook displays images

Facebook shows images in many different places, and each has its own preferred shape. Feed posts can be square, portrait or landscape. Shared links use a wide 1.91:1 preview. Stories fill a vertical phone screen. Profile pictures are square files displayed in a circle. Uploading an image in the wrong shape leads to automatic cropping, which rarely chooses the part you care about.

Link previews deserve particular attention because they are controlled by the web page being shared, not by the person sharing it. The page’s Open Graph tags tell Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and many other services which image to show. A 1200 × 630 image with the subject in the middle and minimal text gives a reliable, attractive preview across all of them.

Facebook compresses images on upload, more strongly for large files. Uploading images close to the size at which they are shown, saved as high-quality JPG, avoids an extra round of resizing and usually produces a cleaner result. For graphics with text or logos, PNG keeps edges crisp.

Text in images is acceptable for organic posts but works best when it is short and large. For ads, Facebook no longer rejects text-heavy images, but its guidance still recommends keeping text small relative to the image for better delivery.
